Neverstair

Night in an impossible tower. Nightmares walk to the light but never go down — lure them onto stairs that never end and bring the mother to the cradle before they wake the child. 100 levels in ten chapters.

At the top of the tower a child sleeps in a cradle, and nightmares creep out of the shadows — soft, slightly funny creatures with glowing eyes. They walk to the nearest light: the mother's lantern or the little lamp over the cradle. Bring the mother to the cradle so that no nightmare can reach it any more. Then dawn breaks and the nightmares drift away as butterflies.

One rule carries the whole game: nightmares never walk down stairs. Lure them higher, walk down, and they stay up there. And on endless stairs that only climb in one direction, they will keep climbing in circles until morning. In this world what you see is what counts: paths that meet on screen truly connect — for the nightmares too.

Time only moves when you act: every step, every turn of a crank and every moment of waiting is one move for the nightmares, and dots show where they will go. Chapter by chapter come fallers that never walk up, nightmares that move the tower like clock hands by stepping on plates, decoy lanterns and owls that no illusion can fool.

A hundred levels in ten chapters; the computer solved each one and kept only those that make you think. A moonlit sky, music-box lullabies and one-tap undo. Progress is saved in the browser, and the game runs on phones and computers with nothing to install.

How to play

  • Tap or click a tile — the mother walks there by the shortest way, around the nightmares.
  • The "Wait" button or tapping the mother: a moment in which only the nightmares move.
  • Drag a crank wheel or tap it to turn part of the building. Every quarter turn takes a moment, and the nightmares take a step.
  • The arrow in the top right corner undoes the last move, even after a nightmare has caught you.
